The total number of Covid-19 positive cases rapidly climbed to 45,929 with the diagnosis of 502 fresh cases on Monday in all eight districts of the Rangpur division, health officials said on Tuesday.
Fourteen more patients died in the last 24 hours till 8am on Tuesday in the division, taking the total number of casualties to 964.
“The 502 new Covid-19 cases were reported after testing 1,734 samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 28.65% on Monday,” said Dr ZA Siddiqui, focal person of the Covid-19 and assistant director (Health) for Rangpur division.
Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 29.75% on Sunday, 30.31% on Saturday, 26.36% on Friday, 26.87% on Thursday, 28.63% on Wednesday and 28.02% on Tuesday last in the division.
The district-wise break-up of total 45,929 patients now stands at 10,202 in Rangpur, 2,866 in Panchagarh, 3,744 in Nilphamari, 2,301 in Lalmonirhat, 3,700 in Kurigram, 6,243 in Thakurgaon, 12,925 in Dinajpur and 3,951 in Gaibandha of the division.
“Since the beginning of the outbreak of Covid-19, a total of 220,545 collected samples were tested till Monday, and of them, 45,929 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 20.83% in the division,” Siddiqui added.
The district-wise break-up of the 964 fatalities now stands at 212 in Rangpur, 61 in Panchagarh, 69 in Nilphamari, 56 in Lalmonirhat, 54 in Kurigram, 186 in Thakurgaon, 276 in Dinajpur and 50 in Gaibandha.
“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.10% in the division,” Dr Islam said.
Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 35,623 with recovery of 447 more infected patients on Monday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 77.56%.
Of the total 35,623 recovered patients, 6,978 of Rangpur, 1,848 of Panchagarh, 3,037 of Nilphamari, 1,902 of Lalmonirhat, 2,729 of Kurigram, 4,750 of Thakurgaon, 11,563 of Dinajpur and 2,816 of Gaibandha districts in the division.
Among the 45,929 infected patients, 620 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 24 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 36,623 patients and 964 deaths while 9,161 are remaining in home isolation.
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 9,44,920, and among them, 3,95,275 got the second dose of the jab till Monday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
