20 houses razed in fire at Balukhali Rohingya camp

More than 20 shelters of the Rohingyas were burned to ashes in a fire at Balukhali camp at Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday, the third fire incident in four months.

The fire erupted at a house in Block B of camp No 9 around 7:45pm, officials say. No casualties were reported in the fire.

Two units of Ukhiya Fire Service and members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) doused the fire, according to 8 APBn Commander SP Shihab Kaiser.

The reason behind the fire and the damage could not be ascertained immediately.

On March 22, a deadly fire broke out at the same camp that left at least 11 dead and over 500 injured. The fire gutted down over 10,000 homes, affecting more than 40,000 people.

After more than a month, on April 14, another fire broke out at the Balukhali Rohingya camp No 9 that razed a madrasa facility.

Meanwhile, on April 2, three Rohingyas died in a fire at Kutupalong Bazar adjacent to Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya.
