Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Advocate Jahangir Alam inaugurated the Covid-19 vaccination program at Toshka Denim Factory in the Konabari area of Gazipur on Sunday.
According to sources, about 12,000 workers of four factories will be vaccinated on the first day without the need for registration.
Obaidur Haque, a supervisor at the Toshka factory, praised the convenience with which the workers could get vaccinated.
“I have tried to get vaccinated before, but could not due to registration problems.”
Fatema Akhter, a female worker of the same factory, thanked the organizers for arranging the vaccination program and said: "I have been vaccinated. Now I will go to the village to celebrate Eid without being worried.”
Advocate Jahangir said the initiative was taken to prevent coronavirus infection. Everyone must follow the hygiene rules even if they are vaccinated.
He further assured that all garment workers would be vaccinated in phases, but they must bring their National Identity Cards (NID) at the time of vaccination.

Civil Surgeon Khairuzzaman said the government has decided to vaccinate garment workers in Gazipur. Factories have already submitted a list of 2.5 million workers.
Vaccination of workers at the Parrow Apparels Limited factory in the Laxmipura area, two factories of Toshka Group in the Konabari area, and the Rose Valley factory in the Bhogra area of Gazipur has already started.
Gazipur Civil Surgeon Khairuzzaman presided over the inauguration. Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Tariqul Islam, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Zakir Hasan, BGMEA President Faruk Hasan, Vice President Nasir Uddin, Director of Toshka Denims Firoz Ahmed, Swapna Bhowmik, head of country of Marks and Spencer, and Ramesh Singh, country director of CARE Bangladesh, were also present, among others.
