Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Sunday said the government would not allow entry of any cattle from outside Bangladesh ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The minister made the statement while speaking at the inauguration of DNCC Digital Haat, via videoconference.
He said: “About 119,000 cattle are ready for sacrifice during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. We did not allow cattle to come from outside the country during the previous two Eid festivals. Still there was no crisis of sacrificial animals.”
There are enough sacrificial animals in the country this year as well, and the border security forces have been instructed to stop cattle smuggling by all means.

The minister said local farmers had worked hard and made investment for cattle rearing. They should be able to sell their cattle at a fair price.
Bangladesh has achieved remarkable success in the livestock sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The country has started exporting meat and dairy products, he added.
Modern slaughter-houses will be built in every municipality outside Dhaka where blood or waste could be processed in hygienic ways.
Members of parliament, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) officials, leaders of e-Commerce Association and Dairy Association were present at this virtual event.
