An armed gang of Rohingya refugees living in a camp in Teknaf attacked a house beside the camp in the wee hours of Wednesday and injured three brothers over previous enmity, police say.
The injured—Rahmatullah, Salamullah and Md Hasan—are now being treated at the 250-Bed District Sadar Hospital in Cox’s Bazar.
Armed Police Battalion (APBn-16) Commanding Officer Md Tariqul Islam said that the attack had been carried out by at least 12 Rohingya men, wielding locally-made guns, around 3am.
The house, located beside the Jadimura Rohingya camp No 27, belongs to one Habibur Rahman in Jadimura area.
Police say Habibur and his family members were beaten up. Before leaving the scene, the criminals sprayed bullets indiscriminately, injuring his three sons.
On information, separate teams of APBn-16 and Teknaf police rushed to the spot, and took the injured brothers to the Upazila Health Complex. Later they were shifted to the Sadar hospital for better treatment.
The law enforcers have primarily identified some Rohingya criminals living in the camp—but none of them could be arrested.
