Hefazat leader Nasiruddin put on 6-day remand

A Chittagong court on Wednesday put Hefazat-e-Islam leader and former vice chairman of its Hathazari upazila unit Mawlana Nasiruddin Munir on a six-day remand in cases filed with Hathazari police station. 

Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahriar Iqbal issued the order as Keshab Chakraborty, investigating officer of the cases, sought a 10-day remand for investigation. 

On March 26, 2021, a total of 10 cases were filed with Hathazari police station against Mawlana Nasir Uddin Munir on charges of vandalism and setting fire to government offices.

Earlier, Nasir was arrested from Hathazari Sadar upazila of the district on Monday. 

He has confessed to his involvement in the violence and vandalism. 

Police have so far arrested 88 out of the 148 accused in these cases. Of them, six have given confessional statements.
