6 killed in Chittagong road accidents

At least six people were killed and over 20 others injured in two separate road accidents in Chittagong city on Friday.

In the city’s EPZ area, three people were killed when a bus hit them in the Khalpar area around 12:30pm.

EPZ police sub-inspector (SI) Rupak Das said a bus hit a pedestrian before ramming a rickshaw, killing three people on the spot. 

The deceased were identified as Arafa Begum, from EPZ Khalpar area, her eight-year-old granddaughter Ayesha Akter Meem, from Cox's Bazar and pedestrian Md Rezaul, from Kurigram.

Meanwhile, a collision between a bus, a minibus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw left at least three people dead and over 20 others injured on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar Highway.

The incident occurred in the afternoon when a BRTC bus heading towards Cox's Bazar hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw before crashing into a minibus heading towards Chittagong city in the Moijjartek area under the Karnaphuli police station.

Karnaphuli police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Dulal Mahmud confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

One of the deceased was identified as Nurul Afsar from Shantirhat area of Patiya, said Shilbrat Barua, assistant sub-inspector of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

The condition of eight of them is critical, he added.
