An eighth-grader was gang-raped for three days after she was abducted allegedly by three locals in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj.
The survivor was rescued on Wednesday afternoon near the Bagbaria graveyard in the upazila, and was immediately sent to a local hospital, police said.
Narrating her debacle primarily, she named the culprits: Ramjan Ali Zakaria, son of Ambar Ali of Penchain village; Raihan, son of late Abdul Mannan of Rautgaon village; and Mehedi Hasan, son of Abu Taleb of the same village.
However, none of them has been arrested yet, while a case has been filed against them with Sonargaon police station, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman.
According to the case dockets, the survivor went to a grocery shop at Rautgaon village under Jampur union on Sunday evening, minutes before the culprits - all of whom are friends - abducted her.
When she was on her way back home, the trio followed her and picked her up. They then took her to an unknown place, where they forced themselves on her in turns in a room.
When the girl’s family realized, they started looking for her.
On Monday morning, her father filed a general diary, prompting police to initiate a search operation.
Since then, police urged the families of the three accused to help track them down.
As their families contacted them in line with the instruction of police, they released the schoolgirl near the graveyard, from where she was rescued.
“They held her hostage in a room at the unknown place for three days and gang-raped her there,” OC Hazifur said, adding that they were trying to arrest the accused.
From January to May this year alone, 401 rapes and 99 gang rapes were reported in Bangladesh, an estimate of rights group Ain O Salish Kendra shows.
