Twelve more people, including four women, died at the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the 24 hours to 8am on Tuesday.
Among them, eight were tested positive for the coronavirus while the rest had symptoms, said the hospital’s Director Brig Gen Shamim Yeazdani.
Of the deceased, seven were from Chapainawabganj, three from Rajshahi, and two from Naogaon.
The hospital’s Covid unit has logged 148 deaths in the last 15 days. Of them, 88 were tested positive with the coronavirus.
In the 24 hours to Tuesday morning, the Covid unit admitted 58 patients.
Of them, 39 were from Rajshahi, eight from Chapainawabganj, five from Naogaon, four from Natore, and two from Kushtia.
Forty-three people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during this period.
The Covid unit is now treating 325 people against a capacity of 273 patients.
However, the hospital authorities are providing treatment after arranging additional beds, said Shamim.
As the coronavirus situation in Rajshahi keeps worsening, the district administration imposed a strict lockdown from 5pm on June 4 till June 17 midnight.
As of Tuesday morning, 12,585 people contracted Covid-19 and 112 others died of the disease in the district only with a daily infection rate of 19.04%.
