The district administration has extended the ongoing “special lockdown” in Chapainawabganj till June 16 midnight with some relaxations on health norms.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the District Corona Control Committee on Monday evening, which was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC).
After the meeting, DC Md Monjurul Hafij revealed the decision in a press briefing, attended among others by Superintendent of Police AHM Abdur Rokib, Civil Surgeon Jahid Nazrul Chowdhury.
The DC informed that shopping centres would remain open from 9 am till 5 pm obeying health rules-- but weekly markets (haats) would remain suspended.

Transports would ply within the district over the period. However, intercity trains and buses would remain suspended during the period.
Earlier, the district administration had imposed the special lockdown for two weeks starting from May 24 midnight in two phases. The lockdown was supposed to end on Monday at midnight.
Infection rate keeps up again in Rajshahi
The Covid-19 test-positivity rate in Rajshahi surged yet again as the results of 174 out of 386 samples tested in two labs came back as positive on Monday night. The latest rate stands at 45.07%, some 5.22 percentage points higher than that registered on Sunday.
The infection rate on Saturday was 50.27%, and the figure was a bit lower (49.43%) on the previous day.
