Lives in India, collects salary from Bangladesh

The family welfare assistant of Bhanga Upazila in Faridpur, Chameli Sikder, lives in India almost the entire year with her family members.

But that does not create any problem for her to draw her salaries and allowances every month without giving any service.

A government employee, Chameli has been posted in Bhanga for the last 10 years. Many locals say they do not know her.

She did not carry out any development work in her field because she is unable to attend office.

India is her second home.

Her husband, Sushanta Master, too is a family welfare assistant. Their children live in India and are studying there. Chameli too stays in India most of the time to take care of them.

Talking to the staff at the Bhanga Family Welfare Office, it was learned that she has been absent at her workplace for months.

"We have been instructed to investigate the matter of her absence and take action," said Bhanga Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Azim Uddin.

Upazila Family Planning Officer Robin Biswas also confirmed the matter.

“I have recently joined my workplace and never found Chameli Sikder here. The UNO will take the decision regarding the legal action to be taken against her," he added.

Chameli Sikder was unreachable on her phone and at her home.
