Madrasa cook arrested for sexually assaulting students in Chittagong

Police on Tuesday arrested a madrasa cook for sexually assaulting five students in Boalkhali upazila, Chittagong.

The arrestee was identified as Hafez Zaker, 19.

Md Abdul Karim, officer-in-charge of Boalkhali police station, said Zaker was arrested following a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act by one of the victims’ guardians.

The accused was a cook at an orphanage and hefzkhana run by Pashchim Saroatali Madrasa.

The parent of a victim said his nine-year-old son was reluctant about going back to the madrasa after his Ramadan vacation ended on May 31.

At one point, the child opened up and said Zaker had raped him twice on April 5 and May 2. The victim spoke of some other classmates who had suffered the same assault at different times.

Later, the plaintiff talked to the other victims and their parents. As their statements matched, the parent filed the case informing the director of the madrasa.

Sub-Inspector Razaul Jabbar, the investigation officer of the case, said the case was under investigation and Zaker had been handed over to the law on Tuesday afternoon.
