Police are investigating the allegation of sexual harassment of a woman inside Barisal Kotwali police station by a sub-inspector.
The woman filed the case on May 24 with Barisal Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal. The court later ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter.
The case says that the woman, who is a resident of Sagardi area of the city, went to the police station on September 26 last year to file a general diary.
During the investigation, Sub-Inspector Asaduzzaman asked the woman to meet him at the police station and sexually harassed her.
The incident was reported to the officer in-charge at the time and the OC assured the woman that he would investigate the matter.
The woman went to court as there was no progress in the investigation in this regard.
"The CCTV camera of the police station was operational at the time of the incident," her counsel Asaduzzaman Howlader said.
But OC Nurul Islam claimed that the woman was mentally ill.
“Everyone can realize the fact talking to her. The victim has gone to the court and the court has asked PBI to investigate the allegation. In addition, we have also started an internal investigation. So there is nothing more to say at this time,” the OC added.
