Despite a heatwave sweeping parts of the country, the Met office says the weather may improve as rain or thunder showers may occur in some places.
However, it is also forecast that the heatwave may continue for a couple of days.
In a regular bulletin on Thursday evening, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecast that rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
Similar weather may prevail in one or two places over Dhaka, Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and the regions of Jessore and Comilla, it said, adding that the weather may remain mainly dry elsewhere over the country.
Rain or thunder showers activity may increase in the next five days while a trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area, extending its trough upto North Bay.
Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barisal divisions and Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni districts and Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong and Srimangal.
According to the BMD, the heatwave may continue. Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
An outlook for the next two days predicts a low over Bay of Bengal.
On Thursday, the country’s highest temperature was recorded at 38 degrees Celsius in Jessore, with the lowest at 24 degrees Celsius in Sylhet.
If the mercury in the thermometer rises to the 36 degrees Celsius to 38 degrees Celsius range, meteorologists call it a mild heat flux. When the temperature rises to the 36 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius range, it is called moderate heat flow. If the temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius, the Met Office considers it as an intense heatwave.
