A team from the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) visited Sitakunda and examined people afflicted with a mysterious disease on Saturday.
ASM Alamgir, a senior scientist with the IEDCR told the Bangla Tribune: “We have collected samples from the affected people. We plan to send them to our laboratories for appropriate tests tomorrow, and we hope to find out detailed information by Sunday night or Monday morning,”
“We are trying to find out the nature of the mysterious disease and how it spreads. We are doing our best,” he added.
Alamgir refused to comment further, saying that everything will be officially revealed once the tests have been conducted.

Previously on July 13, IEDCR Chief Scientist Dr Faruq Ahmed Bhuiyan confirmed to the press that nine children had died due to a mysterious contagious disease.
The children belonged to the Tripura tribe living in the remote hilly areas of Sitakunda in Chittagong. A further 35 children have been admitted to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital and Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious disease upon displaying similar symptoms.
