Woman gang-raped in Rajshahi, 1 held

A woman has been reportedly gang-raped by three men in Rajshahi’s Bagha upazila.

The incident happened in Koli village of the upazila on Monday.

Police arrested one of the accused, Suruj Ali Malitha, 32, after the woman filed a case with Bagha police station in this regard.

According to the case statement, on Monday midnight, Suruj and his two associates Jhontu Ali, 33, and Rujdar Ali, 35, all from the same village, broke into the woman’s house. They threatened the woman with sharp weapons and raped her.

At the time of the incident, the woman’s husband was out for work and she was at home with her two children.

The woman said the accused held her children hostage and also threatened to kill them.

Local councilor Saiful Islam said the accused had another case filed against them for allegedly raping another woman in the village few years ago. 

They are also involved in the drug business, he added.

Bagha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam said the woman has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for undergoing medical examination. 

“We are continuing our operation to arrest the other accused in the case,” he added.
