11 burnt in gas explosion in Narayanganj flat

At least 11 people of two families have sustained burn injuries after a gas explosion at a building in Fatullah of Narayanganj.

The incident took place in a flat on the third floor of the three-storey building in Paschim Talla area in the early hours of Friday.

On information, three firefighting units went to the spot, doused the fire, rescued the victims and sent them to the hospital.

Confirming the matter, Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, said: “The building has almost collapsed due to the explosion.

“There was probably a gas leakage or a stove remained on throughout the night which resulted the rooms to be filled with gas as all windows and doors were also closed. Later, someone tried to light a stove or there was an electric spark which caused the explosion.”

The injured are – three-month-old Mahira, Habibur Rahman, Limon, Sathi, Meem, Aleya, Sonahar, Shanti, Samiul, Monowara and another unidentified person.

Five of them including Mahira were sent to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for their critical conditions. The rest are being treated in Narayanganj General Hospital, the fire service official added.
