Four policemen, including the officer-in-charge of a police station, were injured in an attack carried out by Hefazat activists in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat.
The incident took place in front of the Mollahat Upazila Health Complex at around 11am on Monday, reports a correspondent from Bagerhat, quoting Bagerhat Additional Superintendent of Police Mir Shafin Mahmud.
He said: “Teachers and students of various madrasas took out a rally Monday morning and were marching towards Udaipur while protesting the arrest of Hefazat leader Maulana Mamunul Haque.”
When the police stopped them at the corner of the hospital, the protesters began hurling brickbats at them.
At that time, four policemen, including Mollahat police OC Kazi Golam Kabir, were injured. The injured were given first-aid at the Mollahat Upazila Health Complex.
Additional police have been deployed in the area and the situation is now under control, said the police official.
Action will be taken against those involved in the incident, added the police official.
