Bangladeshi man stabbed to death by fellow expat in Saudi Arabia

An expatriate has been stabbed to death by another expatriate in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia.

The incident happened in Narainpur area of Jeddah around 9:30pm (local time) on Friday.

The deceased, Jamir Uddin, from Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet, went to Saudi Arabia in 2003 and worked for a private company in Narainpur.

On Friday afternoon, Jamir had an argument with Nizam Uddin, another expatriate from Gowainghat upazila. Later, local expatriate leaders settled the dispute between them.

However, after iftar, Nizam suddenly attacked Jamir with a sharp weapon, killing Jamir on the spot. Locals then detained Nizam and informed the Saudi police.

On information, police rushed to the spot, arrested Nizam and recovered Jamir’s body.

Jamir’s younger brother Farid confirmed the matter and said: “My brother has been living in Saudi Arabia since 2003 and I have never heard that he had any argument with anyone.”

He sought support from the minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment to bring his brother’s body to Bangladesh. He also demanded exemplary punishment for the murderer Nizam from the Saudi government.
