A honey collector (Moual) has died in a tiger attack at the Satkhira range of the western Sundarbans.
The deceased was identified as Habibur Rahman alias Hafu, 27, from Mirgang village of Shyamnagar upazila of the district.
The incident took place when Habibur entered the forest to collect honey near Hogoldora khal area, according to Mubarak Hossain, Station Officer of the Forest Department’s Kadamtala Station.
Habibur’s brother Anis Molla said he along with his brother and five others entered the Sundarbans on April 1 to collect honey, reports a correspondent from Satkhira.
Habibur entered the forest alone first. A few moments later, when Anis entered the forest following his brother’s trail, he found Habibur’s body covered in blood.
In a separate incident, another honey collector was injured in a tiger attack at the Satkhira range.
The injured Rabiul Islam, 20, from Gabura union of Shyamnagar upazila, was rescued alive by his companions, confirmed the Forest Department’s Burigoalini Station Officer Sultan Ahmed.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning at the Amratali canal in the Haldibunia area of the western Sundarbans.
According to Rabiul's companions, they all entered the Sundarbans on April 1 to collect honey from the Burigoalini camp.
While collecting honey in the Amratali canal area at around 4pm on Tuesday, a tiger appeared out of nowhere and attacked Rabiul, dragging him into the forest.
He was later found alive a kilometre into the forest.
Rabiul was undergoing treatment at Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex.
