Police in Gazipur have arrested a man on charges of raping a woman and blackmailing her for months afterwards.
Nayan Kumar Ghosh, 30, was arrested on Sunday after the victim, a 32-year-old widow, filed a case the same day, said OC Kamrul Faruq of Bashan police station.
The woman, who lives with her three children, maintained the family by the income from house rent, two trucks and a brick kiln – all left by her husband who died around two years ago, according to the case statement.

In January last year, Nayan raped the woman at her home and filmed the incident before threatening to leak it on the internet, the victim said in the case details before adding that the Nayan had also threatened to harm her children.
He raped the woman several times for months before demanding money from her on at least two occasions, according to the case detail.
On Sunday, the victim filed a case and Nayan was arrested later the same day, said Inspector Mizanur Rahman, also the investigating officer.
