Two security guards of a multi-storey residential building in Narayanganj city sustained burn injuries in a gas explosion on Sunday night.
The victims -- Ujjal and Manik -- are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director Abdullah Al Arefin said the eight-storey building named GM Garden on President Road in Chashara, has a large room used for events constructed at a portion on its rooftop.
Gas was being leaked from the stove at its kitchen for several days and it was repaired on Sunday night.
Around 11:30pm, the security guards went to the room with burning cigarettes and the explosion took place because of the accumulated gas as its door and window were closed, he said.
They were taken to Narayanganj General Hospital immediately from where they were referred to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
