A Rajshahi court has awarded the death penalty to a man for the rape of a teenager.
Fifty-year-old Nazrul Islam was found guilty of raping his step daughter by the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Monday.
The court also fined him by Tk1 lakh.
In May 2018, Nazrul raped his 15-year-old step daughter at knifepoint when no one was at the home, according to Public Prosecutor Rashed-un-Nabi Ahsan.
“The matter came into light months later, when the teenage girl had a miscarriage,” he said before adding the victim’s mother filed a case against Nazrul in February 2019.
