Police on Thursday morning recovered the bodies of a woman and her daughter from a house at Digambhar Bazar in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj.
The deceased were identified as Anjali Das, 35, wife of Sanjit Das of Lamaputijuri village under Putijuri union of the upazila and her daughter Pooja Das, 8, said Bahubal police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kamruzzaman.
Another injured, their neighbour Amir Ali, has been sent to Bahubal Hospital.
According to local sources, Sanjit Das of Lamaputijuri village trades in raw materials. He was living with his wife and child as a tenant in a three-storey house in Digambhar Bazar.
On the night of the incident, he was in Sunamganj on business. He came home on Thursday morning and saw the bloody bodies of his wife and daughter lying on the floor.
Sanjit Das said that around 3am on Wednesday, the injured Amir Ali, a tenant of the second floor of the same building, called him and told him that his house had been robbed. They stole everything including the sewing machine in the house.
Shortly afterwards, his wife Anjali also called him and said that she was scared.
Sanjit Das further said that he returned to Digambhar Bazaar in the morning. He made repeated calls to his wife's mobile phone and came home seeing she was not picking up.
That is when he saw his wife and child dead on the floor.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, a team of police led by Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Parvez Alam Chowdhury and Officer-in-Charge of Bahubal Model police station Mohammad Kamruzzaman reached the spot and recovered the bodies.
