BSF hands over body of Bangladeshi shot dead along Jamalpur border

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over the body of a Bangladeshi man to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) a day after he was shot dead along the Bakshiganj border in Jamalpur.

Officials from BGB received the body of the Bangladeshi national, named Shikku Mia alias Sahijal, from BSF around 6pm on Tuesday evening and later handed it over to his family, reports a correspondent from Jamalpur.

Shikku Mia, 40, son of Farazuddin from Lauchapra village under Kamalpur union of Bakshiganj upazila, went missing on Sunday. Later, his body was recovered from Furangpara area of India on Monday morning.

BGB could not identify the body in the first flag meeting on Tuesday afternoon and the body was sent back to India for autopsy. Later, Shikku Mia’s wife, Molida Begum, identified her husband’s body after BGB showed her a picture of the deceased.

The body was then brought back from India through a second flag meeting, confirmed Bakshiganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam Samrat.

No case has been filed in this regard, the OC added.
