A madrassa teacher has been arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old child in Benapole, Jessore.
Benapole port police Inspector Rasel Sarwar confirmed the incident and said the child had been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The accused has been identified as Salman Farsi, 23.
The child’s grandmother, who is with her at the hospital, said the girl went to the Dar-Us-Salam Qawmi Madrasa in Benapole to attend classes on Sunday.
At around 12pm, the madrasa teacher let all the other students go, but told the survivor to stay back.
He then raped her and left her bleeding. She returned home and informed her family about the incident. She was later admitted to Jessore General Hospital with the help of local police, the grandmother said.
The hospital's Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Arif Ahmed said samples of the child have been collected. She is better now. Details will be known after receiving the report.
Meanwhile, a case of child rape has been filed with Benapole port police station after this incident.
Inspector (OC Investigation) Rasel Sarwar said the accused was arrested on Sunday night. He will be produced before court on Monday.
Salman Farsi is a resident of Chotoanchra, Mathpara, of Benapole port area.
