Sheikh Hasina: Carry Bangabandhu’s ideology in heart

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League to develop themselves in line with the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, keeping in line with their organization's tradition to lead the country.

"… You have to keep your tradition in your mind, and carry the ideology of Bangabandhu in your heart, to build yourselves up (and be) imbued with patriotism as the future leaders of the country," she said on Monday while addressing the 73rd founding anniversary of the organization, the student front of Awami League.

The prime minister attended the program, which was held at the Krishibid Institute, Bangladesh, via videoconference from her official residence, Ganabhaban, reports UNB.

Speaking to the Chhatra League members, the Awami League chief said they had to build themselves up in line with Bangabandhu’s ideology.

"You have to lead the country from the frontline... you have to build yourselves up that way," she said.

She reminded them that a person would be successful if they could be groomed with ideology.

"And if the concentration goes to wealth and money, then that person cannot be successful in life; rather, that person can be indulged with luxury," she added.

Sheikh Hasina, chief patron of Chhatra League, asked the leaders and activists of the organization to internalize the ideology of the father of the nation and patriotism.

"Chhatra League is one of the oldest organizations in the (Indian) subcontinent... make it stronger," she said.

She said all Chhatra League leaders and activists should remember their organization’s principles – education, peace and prosperity.

"We give the highest priority to the education, because without an educated nation, we won't achieve advancement. We will attain peace through education. Bangladesh will be a non-communal, hunger- and poverty-free, developed and prosperous country. Walking the path of peace, we will go to the [path of] prosperity," she said.

She asked all the activists to remember the three principles of Chhatra League all time.

"Without ideology, you won't be able to give anything to the country," she added.

Talking about Covid-19, she directed everyone to follow the health guidelines to protect themselves from the coronavirus.

She said that facing the Covid-19 pandemic, the government was doing whatever needed to keep the country's economy running.

She said the government is giving the same importance to industrialization as agriculture, as both are essential for the country.

"There might be famine across the globe due to the coronavirus. To avert famine in Bangladesh, it should be ensured that not a single inch of arable land is left empty," she said.

In this connection, she put emphasis on the optimum utilization of the arable lands.

Former Chhatra League leader and Awami League central committee member Dr Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin, Awami League Presidium member and former Chhatra League leader Jahangir Kabir Nanak, and Chhatra League President Al Nahean Khan Joy also spoke at the program, which was conducted by Chhatra League General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee.
