Two more youths, who reportedly drank spurious liquor while celebrating the new year in Rajshahi, died at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) on Saturday, raising the death toll to five.
Md Tuhin, 26, and Mun Ahmed, 22, both residents of Rajshahi city, died around 4pm and 8pm respectively while undergoing treatment at the hospital, confirmed RMCH Deputy Director Dr Saiful Ferdous.
He said a total of seven people were admitted to the hospital concealing the fact primarily. Five of them died later.
"They were admitted to the hospital citing stomach ache and other problems. Later, they disclosed the matter," he said.
Sources at RMCH said a few more people were also brought to the hospital after they fell sick drinking liquor. They, however, left the hospital after taking primary treatment.

Dr Kafil Uddin, head of the Forensic Department of Rajshahi Medical College, said they performed autopsy of four bodies on Saturday and presence of toxicity was found in the bodies.
"We have collected their viscera and sent those to lab to determine the cause of death."
Rajpara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam said the victims took the liquor together in Hosniganj area of the city between 9pm and 10pm on Friday and fell sick.
Md Faisal, 28, of Hosniganj area, Md Sagar, 25, of Bakir Mor area in the city, and Md Sajal, 25, of Shantapara area in Bagmara upazila, died at the hospital between Friday night and early Saturday.
The OC said no complaint has been filed in this regard so far.
Investigation is underway, he added.
