Police arrested seven people, including three women of a suspected money extortionist gang, who used different strategies to capture indecent photographs and blackmailed victims for money in Naogaon.
The seven were arrested after a victim's family reported them to police, said Naogaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Abdul Manna Miya in a media briefing at Naogaon Sadar Model police station on Sunday.
Quoting the case -- which was filed against the gang after the arrest -- the SP said one of the accused Bulbuli Begum, 23, developed a relationship with their recent victim while talking with him over the phone.
Bulbuli asked the victim to come to a house in Bandaikhara Bazar area in Naogaon’s Atrai upazila and detained him upon arrival on Saturday.
The gang assaulted him there and threatened to kill him if they were not paid Tk5 lakh as ransom.
When the victim called his family and informed them of his situation, the family called police for help.
Acting on the order of the SP, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Rakibul Akhter along with his force conducted a drive on that very day around 3pm and arrested the culprits.
Police said upon an investigation they have found that the gang was luring their victim's to their location and blackmailing them for money after capturing indecent photographs.
The arrested were identified as Bulbuli, 23, Md Bahadur Sheikh, 38, Mukta, 38, Idris Ali, 45, Munni Bibi, 28, AL Amin, and Enamul Haque.
Bulbuli hails from Joypurhat district and the rest of the accused are from Naogaon.
