As many as one hundred judges of Chittagong took to the streets and formed a human chain protesting against the vandalism of a sculpture of Bangabandhu and provocation against the anti-sculpture campaign.
The judges under the banner of Chittagong Chapter of Bangladesh Judicial Service Association formed the human chain at the city’s Dampara area on Saturday morning.
Later, they brought out a rally which paraded from Dampara to Chittagong Shilpakala Academy.
Following the human chain programme, Chittagong District and Sessions Judge Md Ismail Hossain said: “The entire country is aggrieved over the vandalism of sculpture of Bangabandhu. The judges are part of that. The judges will dispose of cases (as per their duty) and protest simultaneously. Being a citizen of the country, a judge has a responsibility to partake in the protest.”
“We want to inform the countrymen that the judges can also protest. There is no compromise on the question of the Father of the Nation,” the Judge said.
In the early hours of December 5, miscreants smashed the under construction sculpture of Bangabandhu at the five roads' intersection in Kushtia town. The face and hands of the sculpture were vandalized.
