The body of a newborn girl, who was reportedly found dead after birth, was recovered near the women's ward of Natore General Hospital on Friday.
The girl's body was handed over to her family for burial after the body was found hanging off a sun-shade of the first floor, outside women's ward, police said.
The child's mother, 20-year old Sweety, had not known that she was pregnant and the hospital staff also was not able to guess the condition after she sought treatment for heart and neurological conditions on Thursday.
Sweety is a mother of a four-year-old daughter.
Confirming, Dr Ansarul Haque, assistant director of the hospital said: "Sweety is a long term patient of neurological and heart ailments. She had to take strong antibiotics for her conditions.
"The woman secretly gave birth to the dead baby in the hospital's bathroom. As the woman and none of her family members knew that she had been pregnant, out of fear, she dumped the newborn's body from the bathroom's window," the doctor added.
Locals informed police upon spotting the baby at the first floor’s sun-shade.
Police initially detained Sweety and handed the body of the baby over to her family for burial after she confessed that she was her mother, said Natore Sadar police station Sub-Inspector Rafikul Islam.
