Eight women, including Johura Dil Afrose Khuki from Rajshahi, have been honoured with the Joyeeta Award for their successes in different fields by overcoming various difficulties and challenges.
The award was given in different categories, including economy, social development, education, employment, successful mother and prevention of repression, in observance of Begum Rokeya Day 2020.
The awardees --- Johura Dil Afrose Khuki, Dr Hosne Ara Arju, Nilufa Yasmin, Kanon Roy, Shaheena Laizu, Nilufa Yasmin, Nurunnahar and Lakshmi Mardi --- won recognition in five different categories.
These women were awarded the title Joyeeta by the government at the Human Resources Development Training Center on Wednesday morning.
Rajshahi Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Shariful Haque presided over the function while Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil was the chief guest at the program.
The function was organized by Rajshahi District Administration and Department of Women's Affairs.
Tanjima Johra Habib, Rajshahi University Professor of Social Work Department, Shaheen Akhter Reni, Vice-President of Mahanagar Awami League, Shabnam Shirin, Deputy Director, Department of Women's Affairs, Begum Morzina Parveen, Chairman, National Women's Organization, among others, were present on the occasion.
Joyeeta Onneshone Bangladesh--a government initiative introduced in 2011--has had a tremendous impact on society in issues of women empowerment.
Acknowledging the honour, Rajshahi’s newspaper hawker Khuki said: “This is a great honour for me. If the state stands by the side of less fortunate women like me, we will move forward, not as neglected backward parts of society, but as empowered and successful with equal rights.”
