An Awami Swechchasebak League (ASL) leader has been hacked to death by some unknown miscreants in Barura area of Comilla.
The deceased, Jahirul Islam, 35, general secretary of ASL of ward number 5 of the area, was having a cup of tea at a local tea shop when the perpetrators, armed with locally made weapons, attacked him on Thursday afternoon around 1.30.
“Jahirul and Rana, a resident of the area, were having tea in front of Hashem Market. Around 1:30pm some people attacked them with local weapons and hacked him to death on the spot,” Iqbal Bahar Majumdar, officer-in-charge of Barura police station.
“Jahirul was declared dead by the on-duty doctor of the Upazila Health Complex where the other injured, Rana, is receiving treatment,” added the OC.
“The filing of a case is underway. We are investigating the incident on a priority basis,” he said.
