Dhaka-Chittagong highway clogged, Mawa remains empty

Due to the huge pressure of people going home for Eid, almost 13km of the Gojariya area of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway has become clogged with traffic on Thursday. The lines of vehicles have slowly been increasing ever since the morning. However, the ferry administration has continued transporting trucks from the Shimulia Ghaat because of a lower pressure of vehicles there. Trucks line the road towards the ferry port Dhaka TribuneSub-Inspector Hashem Ali, in-charge of the Bhaberchar stretch of Dhaka-Chittagong Highway Police informed: β€œThe traffic has been increasing ever since the morning because of a huge number of people leaving Dhaka for Eid. But, we are trying our best to decrease the inconveniences faced by the passengers.” Trucks parked at a ferry port by the Padma River Dhaka TribuneOn the other hand, according to the Shimulia Ghaat ferry administration, traffic at the ferry port is quite low. Passengers are crossing the river with sea-boats and launches. Due to a shortage of passenger vehicles, trucks are instead being ferried, according to Ghiasuddin Patwari who manages the Shimula Ferry.
