After the body of a newborn girl was found by the bank of Rupsha river in Khulna, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two women, including the mother of the baby in connection with the death on Monday.
On Monday morning locals found the body of the newborn inside a sack at Rupsha ferry terminal area in Khulna's Rupsha upazila and informed the law-enforcers.
Being informed a team from RAB-6 conducted a drive and arrested the girl's mother Salma Begum, 22, and her associate and neighbour Pushpa Begum, 40, confirmed Lt Col Rowshonul Firoz of RAB-6.
RAB says during a preliminary interrogation Salma confessed to leaving the baby in the Rupsha ferry terminal area after she gave birth to her in the early hours of Monday.
The arrestees were handed over to Rupsha police station and a case has been filed against them in connection with the incident.
Previously in Narayanganj, a two-days-old baby girl, who was abandoned by her mother in a jungle just a day after her birth, had died after being rescued from Khalpar area near Farazikanda Jame Mosque area.
“Rikta Begum, 30, mother of the baby girl, was arrested on Friday night after the girl’s father filed a case in this regard,” Narayanganj Bandar police station Sub-Inspector Md Ziaur Rahman said on Saturday.
