Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone of the Bangabandhu Railway Bridge on Thursday, which will be constructed over the Jamuna River next to the Bangabandhu Bridge.
“Processes including tenders and contracts have been completed for the construction of the bridge… Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will virtually unveil the foundation stone of this railway bride via a videoconference session from the Ganabhaban around 11am on Thursday,” the minister said while inspecting the site of the railway bridge in Saidabad area of Sirajganj Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the minister also inspected the construction site of the railway bridge at the eastern end of Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail on Wednesday afternoon.
While speaking to journalists there, he said: “The project will be implemented in Sirajganj and Tangail. With this new railway bridge, trains will be able to run at a speed of 100km/h on two lines.”
The project is expected to be completed by 2025, added the minister.
Local MP Prof Dr Habib-e-Milat, District Council Chairman Abdul Latif Biswas, Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and other senior officials of the Railway Department were present on the occasion.
