Railway communication with the southern part of Bangladesh has been suspended for nine hours after two cargo trains collided head-on in Kotchandpur upazila of Jhenaidah -- although none was injured.
The incident took place around 2am on Tuesday when three bogies including the engine-bogie of an oil-laden train derailed.
Golam Mostofa, station master at the Safdarpur Railway Station said a cargo train bound to Jessore's Noapara from Chuadanga's Darshana collided with an oil-laden train from Khulna.
The driver of the oil-laden train moved in toward the station without waiting for a signal that led to the collision.
A relief-train from Ishwardi began restoration operation around 6am on Tuesday and rail communication resumed around 11am.
