Man killed over Tk500 in Magura

Police on Thursday arrested three people, all of whom reportedly killed a man over an owed amount of Tk500 in Magura.

The deceased has been identified as Monirul Mir, 40, son of late Ishak Ali Mir of Dariapur union of Sreepur upazila.

Police on Wednesday night recovered his body from a paddy field in his union.

The arrested were identified as Pranab Pramanik, Rahul, 16, and a teenage boy.

Confirming, Sreepur police station OC Md Ali Ahmed Masud said police also recovered a knife and iron rod that was used to kill Monirul.

"Monirul Mir was involved in the money lending trade. Six months after lending Pranab Tk500, Monirul demanded Tk5000 from him, including interest,” said OC Ali.

Monirul also used to verbally harass Pranab and his family by going to their house for the money that he was owed, which increased ten times more due to interest. Being agitated by Monirul’s attitude, Pranab killed him with two of his associates. Monirul was beaten with a rod, stabbed in the abdomen then his throat was slit to ensure the murder, OC Ali added.

Parvin Begum, wife of Monirul, said Pranab was refusing to pay back the owed money for a long time. On Wednesday evening Pranab called him over the phone and said he would return the money. Monirul left the house saying he is going to bring the money.

Locals informed police after they found Monirul's body in the paddy field.
