Police have detained eight individuals in connection with the gang rape of a woman in Chittagong city,
The woman was forced to get down from a rickshaw on her way home, and then gang-raped at Moulavi Pukurpar area under Chandgaon police station on Thursday night.
The 22-year-old survivor is now undergoing treatment at the One-stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Police conducted drives in different parts of the city and apprehended the suspects.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Deputy Commissioner (North) Bijay Basak confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
According to the police, the survivor came from Rangunia upazila of the district on a CNG-run autorickshaw and got off at Chandgaon area at around 10:30pm.
She was headed for home at the city’s Chawkbazar area when she was forced to get down from the rickshaw and dragged to a nearby area.
She was allegedly raped afterwards.
The process is underway for a case to be filed with Chandgaon police station in this connection.
