Another woman gang-raped in Sylhet

A group of men have allegedly entered a 40-year-old woman's room and raped her in the Shamimabad area in Sylhet city.

Police on Sunday evening arrested two people named Dilwar and Harun - in connection with the incident.

Confirming the matter on Monday, Lama Bazar police outpost in-charge Sub Inspector Kamal, said the woman lived with her husband and children at Shamimabad area. On Saturday evening, Dilwar, a neighbour, and his two associates entered the woman's room and raped her.

After being informed, police arrested Dilwar and Harun on Sunday evening. The rape survivour lodged a complaint on Monday morning which turned into a lawsuit this afternoon, he said.

The woman was admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre of Sylhet M.A.G. Osmani Medical College and Hospital was discharged after medical check-up, the SI added.

The arrestees were sent to court, said Jyotirmoy Sarkar, additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police. 

Earlier on September 29, a 14-year-old schoolgirl was raped by an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League named Rakib Hossain Niju.

Niju, a student of Sylhet’s Madan Mohan College, was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday. 

Besides, on September 25, a woman was gang-raped at the MC College dormitory in Sylhet.

Her husband filed a case against nine suspects. The court granted remand to eight accused arrested in the incident for five days each.

The accused gave confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after their remand ended.
