The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested notorious criminal Swapan Mia aka Kala Swapan of Gazipur’s Lebu Bagan area.
Confirming the matter at a press conference on Wednesday night, RAB-1 Gazipur Porabari Camp In-Charge Lt Cdr Abdullah Al Mamun said Swapan used to work as a hired assailant and one foreign-made pistol, one zip gun, three bullets and one magazine was recovered during his arrest.
RAB said on September 12, a 45-year-old night guard, Sheikh Fohadul Islam, was hacked mercilessly by miscreants with sharp weapons when he objected to drug peddling at Baruda area of Gazipur City. Fohadul died the next day while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Before his death, Fohadul told police that Swapan and his associates had stabbed him.
Lt Cdr Abdullah Al Mamun said Swapan, who hails from Beramara upazila of Kushtia, was arrested from his residence at Harinal Lebu Bagan area on Wednesday morning.
He also said that during primary interrogation, Swapan also acknowledged his involvement with the murder of Gazipur Juba League leader Liakat during the 11th National Elections in 2018.
