Youth’s head shaved over alleged theft in Cox’s Bazar

A 15-year-old boy has reportedly been beaten up and has had his head shaved by a group of locals on allegations of the theft of a cow in Cox’s Bazar.

The incident took place at Paschim Sonarpara village under Jaliapang union of Ukhiya upazila on Saturday morning.

The victim’s sister Zobaida Begum filed a verbal complaint with Ukhiya police station against accused Jalal Ahmed and his gang.

Zobaida said: “Without any crime being committed by my brother, Jalal Ahmed detained him in Sonarpara Bazar and tortured him on allegations of stealing a cow. Besides, Jalal tied my brother to a tree and shaved his head after putting a garland of shoes around his neck.

“I have filed a complaint against Jalal with Ukhiya police station.” She added

Regarding the matter, Jaliapang union Parishad Member Md Rafiq, said: “The boy who was tortured is actually a shopkeeper. Jalal Ahmed tied the boy to a tree and tortured him. I notified the police about the matter after going there.”

Contacted, Md Monjur Morshed, who joined the Ukhiya police station on Saturday, said: “I have joined the police station just recently. I have not yet received any complaint. Action will be taken upon investigations if any complaint is filed here.”
