Hospital forms probe body on patient’s rape by ward boy in Manikganj

A woman has reportedly been raped by a ward boy at the Saturia Upazila Health Complex in Manikganj on September 11.

The hospital authority formed a seven-member investigation committee to investigate the matter thoroughly, following repeated requests from the locals, nine days after the incident, reports Bangla Tribune.

The woman was a patient of the hospital and was scheduled to be released on September 12, the hospital sources say.

However, the yet to be identified ward boy raped her on the previous night leaving the critically injured on the balcony of the health complex.

Later, considering her health condition, the duty doctor referred her to Manikganj General Hospital, family sources said.

Contacted, Dr Mamunur Rashid, health officer of the upazila said: “We formed a probe body which will submit their report on the incident soon. Legal actions will be taken against the responsible person.”

“We could not identify the rapist but if the hospital authority checks the CCTV footage of the night carefully we hope the perpetrator can be held in no time,” said the woman’s father.

However, when contacted, the Officer-in-Charge of Saturia police station, Motiyar Rahman Miah said the family did not file any complaints so as not to be stigmatised by the society.

Meanwhile, UNO Ashraful Alam said: “The hospital failed to provide security to its patients and they should be held accountable for the incident.”

“I hope the hospital will handle the matter with sincerity so that this type of incident would not repeat in future,” the UNO added.
