DB arrests 2 men from Habiganj for kidnapping

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two people from Habiganj on Thursday, and rescued a man who was abducted by them from Dhaka three days ago.

The victim is Altaf Hossain, a cleaner of the capital’s Civil Aviation School And College. DB rescued him and arrested the two in a drive conducted at a hotel in the vicinity of Cinema Hall Road of Habiganj town.

The arrested were identified as Monirul Islam and Habib, both from Dharmapur village of Habiganj's Lakhai upazila.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Shoilen Chakma, confirmed the matter in a press briefing on Friday.

One of the arrested, Monirul, became friends with Altaf, selling cold drinks in front of the school Altaf worked at, said ASP Shoilen.

On Monday, Monirul picked up Altaf in a car, saying he would drop him home. Instead, he took him to Habiganj, threatening to take his life, Shoilen continued.

Altaf’s family contacted police when the kidnappers claimed Tk1 lakh in ransom money. With the help of technology DB police tracked the kidnappers and managed to recuse him, Shoilen added.
