The home ministry's high-level investigation committee has made an application to the ministry seeking appointment for the prime accused, suspended Teknaf police station in-charge Pradeep Kumar Das, in the Major (retd) Sinha murder case to proceed further with the investigation.
The four-member probe committee held a day-long meeting at the Hill Down Circuit House in Chittagong on Sunday and arranged a press briefing later in the evening.
“We were scheduled to interrogate the suspended OC Pradeep on August 19,'' confirmed Md Mizanur Rahman, additional divisional commissioner of Chittagong, who is heading the investigation committee.
“However, after the court issued and extended his remand twice, we could not meet him on our scheduled time, '' said the official.
“As our reporting time is ending on August 31, we are going to ask the ministry to extend the time period further, so that we can meet OC Pradeep on September 1, added Mizanur.
Along with the additional divisional commissioner of Chittagong, Mizanur Rahman, Md Jakir Hossain, additional deputy inspector general of Chattogram range, Mohammad Shahjahan Ali, additional district magistrate of Cox's Bazar, and Lt Colonel Sajjad, are the members of the committee.
Major Sinha was shot to death at the Shamlapur check post on Marine Drive on the night of July 31 while on his way to Nilima Resort in Himchhari area of Cox's Bazar after filming a video on the Marishbunia hill in Teknaf.
