The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested an alleged human trafficker who smuggled a 14-year-old girl into India by promising her a job in Malaysia.
Mohenuzzan alias Protik, 26, has been arrested from Chittagong on Monday, said Additional DIG of CID Sheikh Md Rezaul Haider at a press conference in its headquarters of Dhaka.
He said, the arrested Protik, along with his wife Jannatul Zerin, abducted the girl in November of last year from Sobujbag area of Dhaka.
They lured her by promising to send her to Malaysia free of cost and give her a “high-salary” job.
Later on, when the girl agreed, they confined her in a room near the Benapole border on November 23, said the additional DIG.
“Previously, the car carrying the victim reached at Jessore’s Sharsha area and she was raped after making her intoxicated. Later, she was raped in that house again,” said Sheikh Md Rezaul Haider.
After sensing the abduction, the victim's family filed a case with Sobujbag police station on November 26.
A team of CID then arrested Zerin from their house in Dhaka.
Acting on information provided by Zerin, the victim was recovered from Benapole.
In the meantime, the other two members of the circle, Rifat and Zakia, were arrested.
CID sources said Zerin and Protik used to work at a hotel in Malaysia as waiters.
They returned five or six years ago and started living as husband and wife.
From then on, they targeted young girls to be trafficked to India while promising to send them to Malaysia and Dubai.
Of those victims, one has already managed to flee from India and return.
CID police said, this crime-ring has many members scattered in various places.
