Covid-19 cases reach 16,266 in Khulna: With the detection of 249 more positive cases in last 24 hours till on Tuesday noon, the total number of Covid-19 infected patients in the division has surged to 16,266, said a Covid-19 quarantine and isolation related daily report here yesterday. “We received 282 samples at Khulna Medical College (KMC) and other samples in Jessore and Kushtia laboratories in the last 24 hours till noon and 249 of those were found Covid-19 positive,” Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter said.

Covid-19 cases climb to 15,942 in Rajshahi: With the detection of 221 new more positive cases in all eight districts of Rajshahi division on Monday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients have now climbed to 15,942 as 10,757 have been cured from the lethal virus infection. Of the total new positive cases, the highest 65 were detected in Bogra followed by 57 in Natore and 43 in Rajshahi districts, said Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya, divisional director of Health.

Fazle Karim Chowdhury MP tested positive for Covid-19: Ruling Party Awami League lawmaker from Raozan in Chittagong and president of parliamentary standing committee on railways ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury has been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus (Covid-19). His report came back positive on Monday night. Confirming the matter on a Facebook status, the lawmaker’s son Faraaz Karim Chowdhury said that his father is now in home isolation after being tested positive for Covid-19. 67-year old Fazle Karim Chowdhury is a four-time lawmaker from Raozan.

Mother, daughter electrocuted to death in Chittagong:  A woman and her daughter died after being electrocuted in Adhunagar area of Lohagara upazila in Chittagong. Lohagara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tousif Ahmed confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. The deceased were identified as Rasheda Begum, 37 and her daughter Moyna Akhtar, 12. According to the Lohagara police, the daughter died from electrocution on Monday evening after going to collect arum from a nearby swamp. The mother died on Tuesday morning when she went to the area in search of her daughter. Presumably, the swamp water got electrocuted after coming into contact with a live electric wire, the police said.

Moulvibazar Zila Parishad chairman Azizur Rahman dies of Covid-19:  Azizur Rahman, chairman of Moulvibazar Zila Parishad, died from Covid-19 infection early on Tuesday at a hospital in the capital.  He was 77. A close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Azizur breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University at around 2:30am. Moulvibazar deputy commissioner Mir Nahid Ahsan confirmed the news. The valiant freedom fighter was airlifted to Dhaka from Moulvibazar on August 5 at the instruction of prime minister Sheikh Hasina. The former general secretary of Moulvibazar district Awami League was elected as a lawmaker on Awami League ticket in 1986 and 1991 general elections. He was an opposition whip in the 1991 parliament.

Doctor jailed for operating healthcare facility without license in Habiganj: A mobile court sentenced a doctor to six months in prison for operating a healthcare facility without any license and without lab technologists for a long time in Habiganj town. Dr Shamsuddoha, owner of Evergreen Diagnostic and Consultant Centre was sentenced by Shamsuddin Md Reza, executive magistrate of the mobile court, when a drive was conducted at the facility in Shaestanagar area of the town. Executive Magistrate Md Reza said: "The Evergreen Diagnostic and Consultant Centre is being operated by Dr Md Shamsuddoha without any license.”
