Hundreds of tourists are thronging Bhutiar Beel everyday to enjoy the eye catching beauty of the spot that has been graced with beautiful lotuses.
With lotuses blooming abundantly every monsoon season, the beel located in the Khulna’s Terokhada upazila turns into one of the most fascinating tourist spots in the district.
The natural water body comprises a total area of 3,000 hectares. However, the lotuses bloom surrounding only around 40/50 hectares of beel is what attracts the tourist most.
The area also has some special characteristics with availability of some aquatic trees, locals said during this correspondent's recent visit to the area.
Hundreds of visitors including students from across the region come to enjoy the beauty of the wetland, as blooming flowers on the beel offer a captivating sight.
Visitors can hire a local boat at a cost of around TK200 to TK500 to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. .
The spot is about 18 kilometres from Khulna town’s Jailkhana ghat area. After reaching Terokhoda Bazar by bus or any other vehicle, one needs to hire a battery-run auto-rickshaw to reach Charkushla village where the beel is located.
Locals said that once upon a time, guests of different ceremonies were served food on the lotus leaves that were collected from the beel. The beel was also abundant with local tasty fishes including Koi and shing.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, a tourist Yasin Arafat said: “Touching the lotus flower from a dinghy boat and the sound of waves of water in the beel gives a different feeling.”
“If we see the beel from a long distance, it seems it’s a fair of colours.” he added.
Another tourist Sumaiya Rahman Ankhi said, “The Bhutiar Beel gets eye-catching because of lotuses, it seems like they welcome tourists.”
Abdus Salam Murshedi, lawmaker from Khulna-4 constituency, said “Everyday many tourists are coming to the Bhutiar Beel to see the lotuses. I will take steps to make this place more beautiful.”
