5 get death for killing woman in Manikganj

A Manikganj court has sentenced five men to death for murdering a woman at her residence in Singair during a robbery in 2010. Judge Al Mahmud Faizul Kabir of Additional District and Sessions Court also fined the convicts Tk20,000 each on Tuesday. Three of the convicts – Ishaq Bhuiyan, 40, Bachchu, 45, and Shahidul Islam, 40 – were present at the court while two others – Emon Ali, 45, and Nannu Mia, 24 – are currently on the run, the plaintiff's counsel Mathur Nath Sarkar said. The five men strangled one Uma Devi to death on August 9, 2010 during a robbery. They also looted 12 bhori of gold ornaments. Uma Devi's son Manabendra Chakraborty filed a murder and robbery case with Singair police the next day. Police pressed charges against the five men on September 27, 2011.
