At least eight people of the same family were killed when a microbus lost control and plunged into a roadside pond at Bashati area of Phulpur upazila in Mymensingh.
The accident took place around 6:45am on Tuesday and the identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, said Phulpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imarat Hossain Gazi, reports Bangla Tribune.
OC Imarat said the driver of the microbus, which was on its way to Sherpur, lost control over the steering and the vehicle fell into a roadside pond, when the eight were killed on the spot.
Five among the deceased were women, two were men and another was a child. The microbus plunged into the pond with a total of 14 passengers onboard.
The local fire service was conducting rescue operations until the writing of this report. As of yet, two people have been rescued.
